In 2017, the Enforcement Section of the Massachusetts Securities Division of the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth filed an Administrative Complaint against Raymond K. Montoya, Research Magnate Advisors, LLC, and Resource Managed Assets, LLC. The State of Massachusetts alleged that Raymond K. Montoya operated a fraudulent hedge fund, known as the RMA Strategic Opportunity Fund, LLC. According to the State of Massachusetts, Raymond K. Montoya and associated entities solicited tens of millions of dollars of investor funds under false pretenses. The State of Massachusetts also alleged that Raymond K. Montoya used this money for his own personal benefit and that of his immediate family, to trade with only limited success, and to make Ponzi-like payments to other investors.
