Since 1998, James Buchanan Jr. has been licensed with Suntrust Securities, Inc. FINRA reports that an arbitration claim involving James Buchanan Jr.’s conduct with SunTrust Investment Services, Inc. was filed in August 2004. The claim alleged violations of Florida Securities Investor Protection Act, violation of the Securities Act of 1933, violation of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, State and Federal common law fraud, misrepresentation, unsuitability, and negligent supervision. This case did not settle and proceeded to final hearing. The arbitration panel found that SunTrust Securities, Inc. and James Buchanan Jr. were jointly and severally liable, and issued a $200,300 plus interest award against SunTrust Securities, Inc. and James Buchanan Jr. The arbitration panel specifically found that SunTrust Securities, Inc. and James Buchanan violated the Florida Securities Investor Protection Act, The Securities Act of 1933, The Securities Exchange Act of 1934, unsuitability and negligent supervision.
Subsequent to this award, FINRA reports that an arbitration claim involving James Buchanan Jr.’s conduct with SunTrust Investment Services, Inc. was filed in May 2016 alleging that a 2012 immediate annuity was unsuitable and that sales of various equities created an avoidable tax liability. This arbitration claim sought $34,563 but was settled for $92,500. James Buchanan Jr. paid $5,939.20 of this settlement.
